Jerry Spumberg, a second generation Master Plumber and Builder, has over 35 years of hands-on ownership experience. His construction companies in Monmouth and Ocean counties performed work throughout the state of New Jersey, projects ranging from remodeling & restorations to one-of-a-kind custom homes in price ranges from affordable to "oh my gosh". He built residential developments, super insulated passive solar homes, and commercial projects as well. Styles were any - it was always the client's choice. 'It all started around the age of ten. On days, holidays and summers when I was off from schools, some children would play with toy trucks, backhoes, and tools. I would travel from Bronx, New York with my dad, the owner of a mechanical contracting company, to New Jersey and play(work) with the real things. It was a way we could spend time together. Often, he would leave me on a job site with a foreman who was told to put me to work(kid sitting the bosses son). But, I would ask to do something, I was taught, practiced and then applied what I had learned. This all seemed to be great fun then and it still is today, five decades later. By the time I was fourteen or so, I knew how to install the plumbing to a new building, run a backhoe with a sewer crew, make material lists and layout. At the age of 16, I became a Licensed Master Plumber. Plumbing is involved with many structural aspects of a building as well as each phase of its construction. I could not help but fall in love with building. To be a builder is to take what has been put on this earth for us and use it to enhance the life of others. I know if my Dad was on this earth today he would tell you, 'that when he became a builder in his mid fifties it was one of the most satisfying times in his life' as it still is for me. Jerry's companies also performed excavation, masonry, plumbing, and mechanical contracting work for others as well as his own companies. Customers included home and business owners, Builders, towns, counties, and the State of New Jersey Dept. of Building and Construction. He has mastered such trades as carpentry, interior woodworking, cabinetry, plumbing, excavation, and many others. Perhaps his most important skill, based on experience and a background in design engineering, is construction management. |
