A unique home improvement concept.
Jerry Spumberg, a second generation Master Plumber and Builder, has over 35 years of hands-on ownership experience, His construction companies in Monmouth and Ocean counties performed work throughout the state of New Jersey, projects ranging from remodeling & restorations to one-of-a-kind custom homes in price ranges from affordable to "oh my gosh". He built residential developments, super insulated passive solar homes, and commercial projects as well. Styles were any - it was always the client's choice.
Jerry's companies also performed excavation, masonry, plumbing, and mechanical contracting work for others as well as his own companies. Customers included home and business owners, Builders, towns, counties, and the State of New Jersey Dept. of Building and Construction.
He has mastered such trades as carpentry, interior woodworking, cabinetry, plumbing, excavation, and many others. Perhaps his most important skill, based on experience and a background in design engineering, is construction management.

How The Concept Came About.
The concept for "THE DO IT YOURSELF COACH" started in my mind over 15 years ago while watching various home improvement shows on television. Even though I was in the industry, I would see something new that would catch my eye and prove useful in my work. Friends, relatives, and former clients would call and tell me how frustrated they were upon attempting to do projects for themselves that they saw on TV.
They would tell me how much money they wasted and sometimes described the catastrophic results of their still unfinished projects. They complained about incompetent trades people, and how their "dream project" was a nightmare for them and full of disappointment and despair.
Upon being asked for advise or help, I asked them what went wrong. Their answers made a light bulb go off in my head. They never recognized the 2 key ingredients in the TV shows that made those home improvements successful...one in plain site and the other hidden:
| The projects were successful because experienced, skilled craftsmen were working with the home owners under the supervision of an on-the-site construction manager | |
| The off screen staff also organized the administrative work and the scheduling of events to take place with the on-site manager (the project coach). |
